Coconut & Apple —Curl Glaze

Odd combination, right??

Well, let’s just get this party started...…. My mother was a creative cook in the 80’s and when while we were not rich. She found ways to create things that looked and tasted amazing. For instance, this Coconut and Jelly combo was actually icing for her yellow Duncan Hines cakes or heck even plain ole sour cream pound cake – Mrs. Melba would ice that bad boy with Apple Jelly and throw some coconut flakes on top and call that her glaze/icing. It was one of the best flavors you could ever experience. Who knew that Apple Jelly was so darn good on top of cake? In the south they used jelly to create many desserts and it was yum-yum good!!  Raise your hand if you can relate.

Creativity Corner: Our owner, decided to combine coconut butter and Apple seed oil both providing many benefits to your curly girl method. Rumor has it, that our gels are on the looser side when it comes to consistency. Hey, don’t knock them until you try them.

Key Ingredients/Benefits:

Coconut Butter - Moisturizes your hair & makes it more manageable. Strengthens the hair shaft & adds volume and strength to fine hair. Replenishes oils lost due to chemical processes.

Apple Seed Oil – Apples Seed Oil contain B-2 and biotin, which are some of the most sought-after nutrients to keep hair healthy. Your apple seed oil will help to trigger hair growth as well as strengthen the roots of your hair

Stuffing's: Aloe Gel, Aloe Juice, Coconut Butter, Jojoba, Apple Seed Oil, Raw Honey, Glycerin and fragrance.

Melba's Omega-3 & Fatty Acid Shaft Deep Penetrating Hair Mask

Next up!! Since we are launching this collection to day and it's Friday. Are you ready for some fish?? Our household was known for fried fish on Fridays. Many things come to mind when you are a creator and fish is definitely NOT something, we want to small in our coils. I took this one a step further and thought there is no better way to bring seafood to hair care than a really GOOD Omega-3 fatty acid hair mask. We all were raised with traditions that we have probably grown a lot fonder of in our adult lives. I personally have learned to appreciate the many traditions we had in our household. My father was a true fisherman and he would actually catch the fish for these Friday family gatherings. The fish that he would catch would range from brim, catfish, bass and many others that I am probably not naming. For all my millennials (tilapia) did not exist. If it did, we were not familiar with it. My mom would even sometimes cook the fish on the bank of the fish creek after they were freshly caught while we the children sat and waited with white bread in hand. I hope you enjoy this Omega-3 Mask as much as we have enjoyed creating it.

Creativity Corner: We definitely stepped out of the box on this one. We are bringing fatty acids to nourish your coils.

Key Ingredients/Benefits:

Omega 3: Since omega-3 has anti-inflammatory properties, fish oil helps in opening up the hair follicles and promoting hair growth, thereby making up for daily hair loss. Also, since Omega-3 is a healthy fat, it prevents dry and flaky scalp.

Stuffing's: Distilled Water, Omega-3, Safflower, Pistachio Butter, Mowrah, Grapeseed, Wheat Germ, Cedarwood, Rose Mary, Sesame and Olive Fruit.

Lemonade & Cucumber Curl Revival Mist Refresher

Every southerner, I’ve ever met loves a fresh squeezed glass of lemonade. Well in the last Melba’s Kitchen Collection we spoke about Melba’s Sugar Honey Iced Tea & Her Aloe water. Well in Edition 2, you will experience her homemade lemonade. Fresh squeezed and added to a red Tupperware jug that she used for all of her handcrafted drinks. She would also let us add the sugar (we never added as much as they did in house party, but it was super sweet..lol) to these classic household drinks.  The hint of cucumber stems from another phenomenal creation or Mrs. Melba. Her cucumber & tomato salad was in her very own words “thrown together” If the fridge ever over flowed with anything she’d look at it as an opportunity to create a dish. Cucumber salad is still popular today but many folks use Italian dressing to suit this gem. Not, Mrs. Melba she would throw plain white vinegar and Crisco oil.  She would follow that with a dash of salt and pepper over sliced cucumbers that were peeled. And yes, you heard it right Crisco!!  And we are ALL still alive.

Creativity Corner: Our Owner is always looking to refresh her coils with something that she can typically grab and go. The word revival stemmed from Mrs. Melba requiring the family to head to EVERY church revival that our family church would host. We somehow, went but never fully understood the term revival until we were much older. Mama always knew best…

Key Ingredients/Benefits:

Cucumber Hydrosol - Promotes Hair Growth with Cucumber is extremely good for your hair. It contains silicon and Sulphur which collectively stop hair fall, and promote healthy hair.”

Melba's Light Beer & Ale Honey Lather (Hand Poured Poo Bar)

Don’t we all love a good cocktail every now and again?? Well now, this lights for you!! Believe it or not-- Mrs. Melba was a Light Beer drinker preferably, Bud Light. She kept a light beer & feel good music every time she ventured into our family kitchen. Our owner created this beer bar to nourish your coils with a hint or honey & beer.

Beer - Did you know that beer can do wonders to your hair? Vitamin B in beer could help in aiding hair growth as the maltose is known to make the hair shaft stronger. Beer is also contains biotin, which is one of the most important vitamins, providing healthy hair growth. Biotin also helps prevent dandruff and stops loss.

Melba's Sweet Pea & Spirulina Low-Poo Conditioning CoWash Cleanser

Mrs. Melba was a huge fan of sweet peas. She would add them to a pot with butter and simple seasonings—probably something from the Lawry’s seasoning family. This cowash even smells of sweet green peas (hint-hint) but it’s not frozen in a bag. It actually has some really good butters and will leave the coils silky smooth and cleansed. This is NOT a leave-in and must be rinsed out.

Key Ingredients/Benefits:

Spirulina - is very effective in preventing hair loss. It also helps in renewing the hair shaft.

Agave – could be the conditioning boost you didn’t know your hair needed. Agave usage is not limited one hair type or texture — it’s just as beneficial for everyone adding a hydration boost to your conditioning regimen.

Melba's Sweet Potato & Turmeric Healthy Scalp Hair Mask

Since the Sweet Potato Low-poo Cowash was such a huge success, Why not …

This product is a spin off from our very first collection. Mrs. Melba was known for her sweet potato bread. Yes, Bread! It was almost iconic to a dump cake. Those that knew her could eat this stuff with their bare hands. We added a hint of turmeric to this mask and we do hope you fall in love—over and over again.  This mask was created to melt into your coils while enjoying the sweet supple smell of sweet potatoes. The texture ranges it’s not lumpy but a little weird looking and this could vary from time to time.

Key Ingredients/Benefits:

Sweet Potato – Combat Dry hair: With all of those nutrients sweet potato provides massive nourishment to thirsty strands that is unmatched. The vitamin A will boost your scalp's natural oils, so it seals the moisture and promotes hair growth while the Omega-3 fatty acids add luster by nourishing your hair follicles.

Creamy Corn Silk Hair Serum

My, My, My…. (In my Johnny Gill voice)

This woman would actually shave corn from the cob and sauté it in a cast iron skillet with crispy fried salt pork (cooked separately) and then add unsalted butter and a dash of sugar and other spices alongside caramelized scallion onions. Have mercy, right now because this was my FAVORITE dish from my mother as a child.  If you love a good serum and you are looking for a creamy bonus of shine. Look, no further this creamy corn silk is just for you!!!

Key Ingredients/Benefits:

Corn silk - extract has proteins, vitamins, and fiber. It even houses antioxidants that your coils can benefit from. It will assist in adding bounce and shine to any hair care regimen.

Angelica root has been used for hair loss treatment for centuries. Enriched with Vitamin E, it helps in stimulating the circulation of oxygen in the body and the scalp.

Melba's Detoxifying Buttermilk Stone Grit Scalp Scrub

Remember the fried fish Friday’s??

Well that fish would be accompanied by southern style grits with butter & black pepper. For some odd reason her grits were the absolute creamiest. Fun Fact: I have NOT eaten grits since losing my mother. I can’t seem to fall in love with them anymore. I would actually use white bread to scrape the grits from my plate and eat a grit sandwich as a child. This scrub will leave your scalp feeling A1. Trust me and the process. It is also detoxifying and can have you feeling like you just left a spa day for healthy scalps.

Stuffings: Sea Salt (NaCI), Citric Acid, Organic Chia Seed, Stone Grit Powder, Buttermilk, Cumin Oil, Olive Fruit, Soap Root Powder, Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar, Neem, Collagen, Rosemary and Lemon Essential and Phthalate Free Fragrance.

Melba's Hair Stuffing Decadent Daily Moisturizer

Believe it or not, Mrs. Melba kinda cheated when it came to stuffing….lol

She would probably kill me if she were alive today for telling her secret. I still recreated this item due to the fond memory of her. When she made stuffing from scratch it was dry and just all around, blah.

How she cheated was by doctoring up stove top stuffing adding chicken gizzards and livers to have the family thinking it was her very own savory recipe. It was the best fake from scratch dressing I had ever eaten. To date I still cannot make dressing and I do this very same thing when hosting holiday dinners…lol—Okay, family my secret is out. Hehehe….

Key Ingredients/Benefits:

Sapote Oil is rich in vitamins A, B, C and E, proteins, amino acids, fatty acids and minerals. It serves as a great moisturizer for dry brittle coils.

Stuffing's: Distilled H20, Aloe Juice, Sapote Oil, Castor Oil, Muru Muru and Fragrance.

Melba's Butter Pecan Curl Defining Hair Butter

And the Oscar goes too…

I do believe this product will be the favorite of EVERYONE who experiences this collection Mrs. Melba ONLY ate Butter Pecan ice cream. And she ONLY purchased the Farm Store brand for those who are familiar with Farm Stores. That same sweet potato bread she would dump a big scoop on top of the bread and we would sit and eat it just like that. I was truly sinful but the flavor was Yum..Yum GOOD!!

Key Ingredients/Benefits:

Bacuri Butter - contains many fatty acids the hair absorbs that makes your hair healthier, while also smoothing the hair and adding moisture. It also houses different proteins that help make hair shinier, while also making it softer.

Coconut & Apple Curl Glaze ❤️

Melba’s Coconut & Apple Curl Glaze - Opaque white in color with a custard like consistency and texture. It is not sticky or tacky. It doesn't have much slip, however, it smoothes and grips onto the hair fairy easily. The aroma is pleasant, mild and sweet; similar to vanilla, coconut and artificial apple candy. A little bit goes a long way and after drying, it left a very firm cast with high shine. Breaking the cast same day, my curls were extremely soft, defined, fluffy and bouncy (day 3 hair on day 1). I really like this gel as I never tried any other styling gel similar to this and I would definitely repurchase. Hair: Fine, Medium Density, Normal-High Porosity, Type 3 Curls.
